Curriculum Implementation Process
The curriculum implementation process takes place over a couple of years according to the following schedule:
Year One:
New curriculum is disseminated.
Principals receive an overview of new curriculum.
Implementation workshops begin
Year Two:
Implementation workshops continue.
Selection of textbooks and instructional resources is begun.
Year Three:
Textbooks and instructional materials are in place.
Implementation phase begins. (This may be a two or three year process depending on strategy used.)
Following the writing, publication, and dissemination of a curriculum the process of implementation begins. Documents are distributed to the principals followed by an overview of the document at a diocesan principal meeting. This overview highlights the changes from the previous document and highlights how it is aligned with the Ohio Academic Content Standards.
During the fall and spring following the dissemination of a curriculum, workshops are offered to teachers of various grade levels to familiarize them with the content and format of the new curriculum. Once this is completed, the school must decide how best to phase in the teaching of the new curriculum.
During the year following its dissemination and upon completion of the implementation workshops, the principal and teachers of the particular curricular area review the content and format of the new document. This provides the principals and teachers the opportunity to investigate textbooks, software, online resources, and other instructional materials that may be needed to effectively implement the new curriculum.
